The Record Academy has announced the nominees for the 68th annual Grammy Awards, with American rapper Kendrid Lamar leading the pack with nine nominations.
Nigerian Afrobeats stars Burna Boy and Davido continued their nomination streaks in the Best African Music Performance category, earning nominations in the category for the third consecutive year with ‘Love’ and ‘With You’ featuring Omah Lay, respectively.
Nigerian diva Ayra Starr and her South African counterpart, Tyla, returned to the nominees’ list after a brief absent last year. The divas were both nominated in a familiar terrain -Best African Music Performance category- with Ayra coming in this time with ‘Gimme Dat’ featuring Wizkid, and Tyla appearing with ‘Push 2 Start.’
Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo’s ‘Hope & Love’ featuring Mehran Matin complete the nominees for the Best African Music Performance category this year.
Burna Boy has another nomination in the Best Global Music Album category with ‘No Sign Of Weakness,’ making him the most nominated Nigerian this year with two nods.
Senegalese legend Youssou N’Dour is also nominated in the Best Global Music Album category with ‘Éclairer le monde (Light the World).’
Meanwhile, Nigerian-American country artist Shaboozey earned a nomination for Best Country Solo Performance with ‘Good News,’ and also appears in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category for ‘Amen,’ alongside Jelly Roll.
The 2026 Grammy is scheduled for February 1, 2026, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, with a global broadcast on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
