2027: Benue APC Lawmakers Make Bold Move, Endorse Tinubu for Second Term

In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Benue State Caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the National Assembly has thrown its full weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, endorsing him as the party’s sole presidential candidate.

The bold declaration was made on Wednesday during a press conference at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, making the Benue APC Caucus the first legislative bloc in the 10th Assembly to officially back Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Senator Titus Zam (Benue North-West), speaking on behalf of the caucus, praised the president’s “transformative leadership” and pointed to a string of federal projects and initiatives that have directly impacted Benue State since Tinubu assumed office in May 2023.

Standing alongside Senator Emmanuel Udende (Benue North-East) and ten APC members of the House of Representatives from the state, Zam highlighted landmark infrastructure efforts such as the ambitious 465-kilometre Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue–Nasarawa–Abuja Superhighway, the reconstruction of the Makurdi–Aliade–Otukpo–Enugu Road, and the ongoing dualization of the 9th Mile–Otukpo–Makurdi corridor.

He also cited the ₦83.8 billion Buruku Bridge project across the Katsina-Ala River, upgrades to the Oju–Cross River road, and the construction of a new flyover at the Wurukum Roundabout in Makurdi as evidence of the administration’s commitment to the region.

On education and healthcare, the Caucus lauded the improved funding for the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo (FUHSO), as well as the establishment of a teaching hospital, a new Infectious Disease Control Centre in Vandeikya, and a Federal College of Agricultural Technology in Opialu Ojapo.

In housing, lawmakers pointed to the construction of 250 housing units under the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme, with an additional 1,000 approved under the Pulaku Resettlement Initiative.

Furthermore, they emphasized the disbursement of ₦44 billion to Benue State, which includes ₦5 billion in post-subsidy removal relief, ₦9 billion for infrastructure, and ₦30 billion through the Subnational Intervention Fund.

Addressing the security situation in Benue, the Caucus applauded Tinubu’s federal efforts and urged the state government to deepen cooperation with federal security agencies. They stressed the need for better intelligence gathering and stronger community-based initiatives to address persistent insecurity.

“As elected representatives, we reaffirm our unwavering support for President Tinubu and the national security apparatus in their mission to restore lasting peace to Benue State,” said Senator Zam.

The lawmakers concluded by pledging to leverage their positions in the National Assembly to advocate for further development, provide aid to displaced farmers, and support violence-affected communities across the state.
