Tottenham Hotspur have been crowned Europa League champions after edging Manchester United 1-0 on Wednesday night in Bilbao.
Both clubs entered the final desperate for silverware after disappointing seasons, with the added incentive of securing Champions League qualification for next year.
The decisive moment came in the first half when Brennan Johnson pounced on a loose ball in the box, slotting it past United goalkeeper Andre Onana.
Manchester United pushed hard for an equalizer, with Bruno Fernandes delivering a dangerous free-kick that nearly resulted in a goal. Leny Yoro’s touch was goal-bound, but Spurs keeper Guglielmo Vicario pulled off a brilliant save. Moments later, Micky van de Ven cleared a Rasmus Hojlund header off the line to preserve the lead.
Tottenham held firm until the final whistle to secure their first European title in four decades — and their first trophy of any kind in over 17 years.
