Former Nollywood actress Grace-Charis Bassey Effah, previously known as Belinda Effah, has proudly announced her graduation from the U.S. Navy boot camp and her new status as a U.S. citizen. The 33-year-old shared this significant milestone on social media, posting photos in her Navy uniform and expressing gratitude to God, her family, and supporters. She dedicated this achievement to her late father, Naval Commander Asido Bassey Effah.
In her announcement, Bassey stated, “Last week, I graduated from U.S. Navy boot camp as a Sailor and took the oath as a citizen of the United States. Nigeria raised me, America challenged me, and I stand today stronger and more determined than ever.”
The actress, who rose to fame in Nollywood under the name Belinda Effah, explained that she changed her name following a spiritual transformation. She revealed that “Belinda,” meaning “beautiful serpent,” no longer aligned with her identity after a divine encounter, leading her to adopt the name Grace.
Addressing media reports about her departure from acting, Bassey clarified that stepping away from Nollywood isn’t necessarily permanent. She remarked, “Once an actor, always an actor. I go with the flow. Change, as they say, is the only constant thing.” While she is currently focused on her military career, she emphasized that her creative spirit remains alive, with a team managing her YouTube page to keep her audience engaged.
Grace-Charis Bassey’s transition from the Nigerian film industry to the U.S. Navy marks a significant and inspiring new chapter in her life, reflecting her personal growth and dedication to service.
