Ayra Starr has become the first female Nigerian artist to have a solo song surpassed 500 million streams on both Spotify and YouTube.
The music star achieved the feat as her 2021 hit ‘Rush’ recently hit 500 million streams on both platforms.
“@ayrastarr’s ‘Rush’ becomes the first solo song by a female Nigerian artist to surpass 500 million streams on Spotify,” music monitoring platform, Chart Data tweeted.
Ayra Starr has also become the first African female artist to have multiple songs surpassed 500 million streams on Spotify as ‘Rush’ joins her collaborative hit with Rauw Alejandro, and Rvssian, ‘Santa’, which is now nearing a billion streams on the platform.
‘Rush’ was nominated for the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 2024 Grammy Awards but lost to South African singer Tyla’s global hit, ‘Water.’
The song has bagged multiple certifications around the world, including Diamond in France and Gold in the UK.
