Dancing to promote film unprofessional – Omotola Jalade Ekeinde

Veteran Nollywood actress and producer Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has added her voice to the ongoing debate over the trend of filmmakers and actors dancing to promote their movies in cinemas and on streaming platforms.
Recall that ace filmmaker Kunle Afolayan sparked a debate after stating at the Lagos Business of Film Summit that he would not resort to dancing to promote a film, stressing that the practice was “unsustainable.”
Responding to a question from TVC interviewers whether she would adopt dancing as a promotional tool for her upcoming film “Mothers Love”,  Omosexy, as the actress is fondly called, said she does not subscribe to that marketing strategy.
“I’m sorry, I will not be doing the dancing. It’s just not me,” she said.
She explained that the professional thing to do after making a movie as an actor or filmmaker was to “let the people whose jobs are to distribute and do the advertising for the project handle that.”
The 47-year-old added that there was nothing wrong for actors to promote their movies, but the job shouldn’t be left almost to the actors alone.
Ekeinde suggested that dancing, content creation, and other trending marketing strategies should be optional and done for fun, not treated as a compulsory requirement for selling movies.
She also criticised the growing tendency among filmmakers to cast untrained individuals solely based on their social media followings.
She noted that the practice had led professional actors to miss out on job opportunities.
