FCTA Seals PDP National Secretariat Over Unpaid Ground Rent

In a bold enforcement move, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under Minister Nyesom Wike has sealed off the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Wuse area of Abuja.

The building was shut down around 2:05 p.m. on Monday as FCTA officials arrived at the premises and instructed the security personnel to alert party authorities. The action is part of an ongoing clampdown on property owners who have defaulted on statutory financial obligations, particularly ground rent payments.

According to the FCTA, the sealing of the PDP headquarters is in line with its drive to restore compliance with land tenure regulations and boost revenue generation within the capital territory. The administration disclosed that over 8,000 property owners owe a staggering ₦6.97 billion in unpaid ground rent—some debts dating back more than 40 years.

This development comes on the heels of the recent revocation of 4,794 land titles across high-value districts including Wuse, Maitama, Asokoro, and Garki.

Minister Wike has consistently emphasized the government’s zero-tolerance stance on non-compliance. Citing Section 28(5) of the Land Use Act, he noted that the FCTA has the legal authority to revoke land titles if terms of occupancy are violated.

“We will no longer tolerate individuals or organizations who fail to meet their obligations while occupying premium land in the FCT,” Wike declared, vowing that more enforcement actions will follow until all outstanding arrears are cleared.

This action against one of Nigeria’s major political parties sends a strong signal that the Wike-led FCTA is determined to uphold the rule of law and ensure financial accountability across the territory.
