0

The Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr Dennis Otuaro, has congratulated the Founder of Esther Matthew Tonlagha Foundation, Mrs Esther Tonlagha, on her conferment with an Honorary Doctorate of Science (D.Sc) Degree in Community Development and Empowerment by the Federal University, Otuoke.

The honoree is the wife of Engr. Matthew Tonlagha, an accomplished Ijaw businessman with huge investments in oil and gas, and engineering solutions in various sectors.

She was presented with the award in recognition of her exceptional contributions to community development and empowerment, during the maiden combined convocation ceremonies of the university held on 8 December, 2025 at Otuoke in Bayelsa State.

Otuaro noted that the honour was a testament to Mrs Tonlagha’s unwavering commitment and dedication to community development and empowerment through her foundation.

He described Mrs Tonlagha as an amazon and a philanthropist with a large heart, whose selfless service to community and humanity resonates across the Niger Delta and beyond.

Otuaro described the honour as well-deserved as shown by her bold antecedents, and expressed the hope that it would motivate her to do more for society.

He said he is not surprised that Mrs Tonlagha, a devout Christian, has given due priority to the service of humanity.

The PAP Administrator also lauded the management of Federal University, Otuoke, for recognizing Mrs Tonlagha’s selfless service, life of sacrifice, remarkable achievements, and the commendable work of her foundation.

Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor: A Death Too Painful – Senator Seriake Dickson

0

The former governor of Bayelsa State and Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson has described the death of the Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor as a death too painful.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Senator Dickson said he had been saddened and heartbroken since Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor’s death was confirmed. Senator Dickson described Deputy Governor Ewhrudjakpor as a most selfless, dedicated, honest and loyal public servant and politician. Senator Dickson said he personally lost a dependable, loyal and principled mentee who was committed to the causes they pursue in public service — service to God and humanity, and to ourselves the least.

“Yesterday, December 11, will remain one of my saddest days. I was already gearing up to be part of the screening of the ambassadorial nominees as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs when I received a call about the medical emergency involving His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State. I spoke with his aides and the doctors, then left abruptly and came home to monitor the situation until my worst fears were confirmed.

“I have been saddened and heartbroken since his death was confirmed. We have lost a most selfless, dedicated, honest and loyal public servant and politician. I have personally lost a dependable, loyal and principled mentee who was committed to the causes we pursue in public service — service to God and humanity, and to ourselves the least.

”Dr. Ewhrudjakpor was clearly the best among my political mentees. A rare combination of competence, intellect, loyalty and selflessness.

Senator Dickson said Senator Ewhrudjakpor proved himself, especially at difficult times, as a politician of principle and conviction he had mentored him to be over the years. He said Senator Ewhrudjakpor exemplified the act of living a simple life with profound impact. He said Ewhrudjakpor dedicated all his time and energy to executing landmark infrastructural achievements across Bayelsa state as Commissioner of Works when he, Dickson was Bayelsa State Governor , even during the crippling recession.

“He proved himself, especially at difficult times, as a politician of principle and conviction I had mentored him to be over the years. He exemplified the act of living a simple life with profound impact. Ewhrudjakpor was irreplaceable — formidable in intellect and learned, emotionally stable, mature and principled.

“Since our paths crossed in the ’90s, I took him under my wings when he was a union activist and I, a legal practitioner. He drew inspiration from our interactions to pursue further education and was inspired to study Law after his first degree — which he took all the way to a Doctorate, even as a very busy man. When I became Attorney General, he was my P.A. When I was elected to the House of Representatives, he was my Senior Legislative Aide. When I became Governor, he served as Commissioner for Works for almost 8years, dedicating all his time and energy to executing landmark infrastructural achievements across the state, even during the crippling recession.

“Then I nominated him to run for the Senate representing our Senatorial District, Bayelsa West, which he won. Later, I nominated him and the current Governor, who were then Senators. I pulled them out as Governor and Deputy Governorship candidates respectively. As Deputy Governor, Dr.Ewhrudjakpor remained dutiful and loyal.

“He was steadfast, even to the point of almost losing his office. When he was made, unfortunately, to choose between his office and his loyalty, respect and gratitude to me, he chose the latter, and went through a lot for the principled choices he made during the almost six years he served dutifully without complaining. There is no one who did not feel the impact of his service—the open-door policy and life of service, exactly as I taught them, and without betrayal to me or anyone. He listened to wise counsel and advice, which I was always available to give.

”No one is more affected by this sudden loss than I am, apart from his immediate family. It will be difficult to fill the void he has left in my heart, in the hearts of Bayelsans, of Nigerians, and of all humanity that encountered him. He followed strictly the creed I teach all my mentees: service to man is service to God, with to ourselves the least.

“While we are devastated by this sudden and untimely loss, we must remain proud of his record of honest, dedicated, selfless, loyal and principled service to God and humanity to the very end. He will be sorely missed. In fact, I do not believe I can find any replacement for Dr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor.

“I extend my condolences to his wife, with whom I have spoken, and to his children, whom I regard as mine — his son is even named after me. My condolences also go to his family with whom I am in constant touch, the Ofoni community and the Bayelsa West Senatorial District which he represented and served; to the Catholic Church to which he was a devout Catholic and a Knight, and to his numerous friends, associates and supporters; to the government and good people of Bayelsa state.

“Since the sad event I have received a deluge of calls and visits indicative of the impact his life of service made.

“The family will announce, in consultation with the government, the funeral arrangements. I implore all to find time to join the family in praying for the peaceful repose of the soul of this good man, and for the family and all of us to have the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.

Niger Delta group dissociates from criminal activities of imposter

… Condemns Attacks On PAP Boss, Others

President of the Niger Delta Youth Council of Nigeria (NDYCN), Blessing Adogbeji, has strongly refuted claims by one Becham Ufuoma that he is the president of the council.

Adogbeji also distanced the NDYCN from what he described as “irresponsible and misleading publications” made by Ufuoma, who had been issuing “reckless statements targeted at respected leaders of the Niger Delta region”, including the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Dr Dennis Otuaro.

He labelled Ufuoma as an impostor, who does not enjoy any iota of legitimacy from the entire stakeholders of the NDYCN, stressing that there is only one officially recognized president of the group, which is Blessing Adogbeji.

“Mr Becham Ufuoma is an impostor. He has never been elected, appointed, nominated, or endorsed at any level of the NDYCN structure. He operates with no mandate and no legitimacy whatsoever”, Adogbeji clarified in a statement he issued on Wednesday.

He condemned Ufuoma’s attacks on Otuaro, noting that the PAP Administrator has performed creditably and impacted the region positively with purpose-driven initiatives.

Adogbeji said the NDYCN is solidly behind the leadership of Otuaro because he has demonstrated transparency and integrity in the running of the Programme.

He further said, “NDYCN has only ONE recognized National President. That office is vested in Amb. Blessing Adogbeji, duly acknowledged by stakeholders, youth blocs, regional leadership, and partnering institutions across the Niger Delta.

“NDYCN strongly distances itself from Ufuoma’s reckless comments. His statements do not represent NDYCN. They represent only his personal frustration, desperation, and failed attempt to seek relevance through impersonation.

“His attempt to run a parallel structure is criminal, fraudulent, and completely rejected. No individual can form a one-man contraption and attempt to drag a respected Niger Delta institution into disrepute. NDYCN will not tolerate such impersonation.

“The Niger Delta Youth Council stands firmly with the Presidential Amnesty Programme under the leadership of Chief (Dr.) Dennis Otuaro.

“Chief Otuaro’s administration remains the most peaceful, stable, and development-driven since the inception of the programme. His hands-on engagement, transparency, and impact across the region speak for themselves.

“Anyone attacking Chief Otuaro without facts is simply exposing their own ignorance and lack of understanding of Niger Delta governance dynamics.”

The NDYCN leader added that the council would continue to defend and support credible leaderships that were delivering results, adding that Ufuoma “has no platform, no constituency, and no authority to speak for the Niger Delta youths.”

While urging the public to disregard Ufuoma and his misleading activities, Adogbeji emphasized that the NDYCN remained focused on unity, strategic engagement, and regional development.

He warned that the group “will not allow desperate, unauthorized individuals to undermine the integrity of this great institution.”

UK artists inspired me to do music – Wizkid’s son, Champz

0

Boluwatife Balogun, aka Champz, a song of Nigerian singer Wizkid and a rising rapper, has revealed that he was inspired by British artists to do music.

In a recent interview with Glitch Africa, Champz, who released his debut EP ‘Champion’s Arrival’ in November 2025, disclosed that the project was inspired by UK drill stars J Hus, Asco, Nines and Clavish.

“The artists who influenced my sound the most on my debut EP are J Hus, Asco, Nines and Clavish. Those are my main inspirations,” he said.
Champz, however, added that being from a family with music background influenced him to write music and produce beats from a very young age.
On whether he is under any pressure to create a niche for himself in the music industry, the 14-year-old said, “There is no pressure. I’m young, I’m 14. I still have a long way to go. I have done a lot for my age. And I thank God, my mum and everyone that was present for me when I was still doing my things. No pressure.”

PAP dismisses video containing false allegations against Otuaro

0

The Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) has dismissed as baseless and malicious the recent allegations made by Mr. Jude Gbaboyor against the Administrator of the Programme, Dr. Dennis Otuaro.

In a video circulating on Facebook, which he purportedly recorded in the United States, Gbaboyor levelled grave and unfounded accusations against Dr. Otuaro, including claims of murder, ritualism, and kidnapping.

However, the PAP in a statement issued by the Special Assistant on Media to the Administrator, Mr Igoniko Oduma, on Monday, stated that the video in which he called for the Administrator’s removal, represents yet another desperate attempt by Gbaboyor to defame Otuaro’s character and undermine the credible work of the Programme.

The statement added that Gbaboyor now a fugitive committed the crimes of cyberstalking among others and decided to flee the country to evade arrest and prosecution.

The statement emphasized that the said Gbaboyor was dismissed from the PAP due to his unacceptable conduct some years back and should be discountenanced by the reading public.

The statement reads, ‘’This is not the first time Gbaboyor has made outrageous and unsubstantiated claims against the PAP boss. His persistent campaign of calumny prompted the PAP Administrator to formally petition relevant security agencies, citing cyberstalking and criminal intimidation.

“When invited by the Nigeria Police Force to answer questions regarding these spurious allegations, Gbaboyor fled the country, effectively making himself a fugitive from justice.

‘’It is instructive to note that Gbaboyor’s relentless attacks on Dr Otuaro began only after the Administrator rejected his request for reinstatement at the Amnesty Office, from which he was previously dismissed several years ago due to his lack of character.

“Having failed to ingratiate himself with the PAP leadership and secure reemployment through proper channels, Gbaboyor has resorted to character assassination and the dissemination of false information.

‘’Particularly troubling is Gbaboyor’s appeal to the President of the United States to interfere in what is purely a personal matter under local jurisdiction. This represents a profound insult to Nigeria’s sovereignty and a misguided attempt to internationalise personal grievances.

‘’The Presidential Amnesty Programme urges members of the public to disregard these irresponsible acts and baseless allegations in their entirety. If Gbaboyor genuinely believes in the veracity of his claims, he should demonstrate the courage of his convictions by returning to Nigeria to substantiate them before the appropriate authorities and courts of law.

‘’Instead, his flight from lawful police invitation and subsequent attacks from abroad reveal the true nature of his campaign: a calculated effort to malign a public servant from the safety of foreign shores, beyond the immediate reach of Nigerian law enforcement.

‘’Under Dr Dennis Otuaro’s leadership, the Presidential Amnesty Programme has remained focused on its mandate of fostering sustainable peace and development in the Niger Delta region. The Programme will not be distracted by spurious allegations from misguided and individuals pursuing personal vendettas.

‘’The Presidential Amnesty Programme reaffirms its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law and will continue to pursue all legal remedies available to protect the integrity and reputation of the Administrator and the agency.”

2021 Audit Report: Ijaw Group faults House of Reps invitation of PAP boss

0

The Ijaw Youths Network has faulted the House of Representatives for tackling the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr Dennis Otuaro, over alleged financial irregularities highlighted against the agency in the 2021 audit report of the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation.

According to the group, it is curious that the House Committee on Public Accounts is dragging Otuaro to answer questions on the alleged breaches that predated his appointment.

The IYN, in a statement on Sunday signed by its National President, Frank Ebikabo, and the Secretary, Federal Ebiaridor, stated that Otuaro was appointed in March 2024, three years after the audit report on previous administrations at the agency.

Ebikabo and Ebiaridor said that the committee’s threat to use warrant of arrest to compel Otuaro to appear at its public hearing on the 2021 audit report concerning deployments of funds three years before his appointment is curious and unnecessary.

They wondered why the committee would keep insisting that Otuaro should provide explanations on issues that did not take place under him, stressing that the move defies logic.

The IYN members noted that the committee could reach out those those who held sway at the PAP when the funds involved were withdrawn rather than making it an affair of a Otuaro.

The group urged the committee to leave the PAP Administrator alone and seek other ways to get clarity on the issues they are dealing with.

The statement read in part, “The Ijaw Youths Network is faulting the move by the House of Representatives, through its Public Accounts Committee, to invite the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Dr Dennis Otuaro, over alleged financial irregularities highlighted against the PAP in the 2021 audit report of the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation.

“We find it very curious that the House Public Accounts Committee wants Dr Dennis Otuaro to answer questions on alleged breaches that happened over three years before he was appointed as head of the agency.

“The PAP Administrator was appointed in March 2024, three years after the said 2021 audit report was done. Is it not illogical that he is being called upon to answer questions on what happened in the agency before he came on board?

“We are compelled to believe that the committee’s insistence that the PAP Administrator should appear at its public hearing to clarify issues that did not take place under him is not proper.

“We wonder what else could be the reason behind the threat by the Public Accounts Committee to issue a warrant of arrest against Dr Dennis Otuaro to compel him to appear before its public hearing on the 2021 audit report?

“Does Otuaro have the power to undo what was done three our four years before his appointment. We are inclined to think that the House could invite those who were at the helm of affairs when the said infractions occurred.

“The Committee should find other ways of investigating aspects of the 2021 audit report relating to the Presidential Amnesty Programme rather than making it an affair of the current head of the agency.

Fear Grips Community as Armed Herders Trespass in Benue.

Residents of Tombo Ward in Logo Local Government Area, Benue State, are living in fear following the unauthorized influx of herders grazing cattle in the community. The situation has escalated amid reports that some herders are heavily armed and display sophisticated weapons openly.

Community leaders have petitioned relevant authorities, highlighting widespread destruction of farmlands, obstruction of fishing activities, and restricted access to fish ponds in Anyibe, Azege (Mbaya community), and Abena Hill. The petition, submitted by the Gaambetiev Local Government Workers Forum and signed by its president, Jeyol Hilenen, warned that the herders’ presence is causing “increasing tension and anxiety” among residents whose livelihoods depend on farming and fishing.

The petition urged security agencies to verify and assess the situation, remove unauthorized herders, and deploy personnel to stabilize the area and prevent further economic loss and potential violence.

ADC Urges Peter Obi to Decide on Joining Party Amid Coalition Concerns

0

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, to clarify whether he intends to join the party.

ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi said the coalition is focused on presenting a credible alternative to Nigerians, not on zoning or rotation of key political offices, which Obi had cited as a concern. “If zoning is the condition on which he continues to assess the coalition, he should probably wait until we get to that point,” Abdullahi said.

Obi had expressed worries that the ADC-led coalition was “faltering” over unresolved zoning issues but expressed confidence in leaders such as former Senate President David Mark and ex–Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Abdullahi stressed the party’s stability and progress, noting that within five months it has established offices in 27 of 36 states without holding a single political office. He urged Obi to contribute actively to party-building, particularly in his home state of Anambra.

“For us, we want Peter Obi to join us in building a political party that can reset Nigerian politics and provide a credible alternative,” Abdullahi added.

Abia State Receives New IDP Facility from Federal Flood Relief Committee.

0

The Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation has handed over the newly completed Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) facility at Mgbarakuma Ubakala to the Abia State government.

At the handover, Onimode Haruna, a committee representative, urged users to take ownership by maintaining and protecting the facility from vandalism. He praised the state government for its partnership in bringing the project to completion.

Sunny Jackson, Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, lauded the federal government for initiating the project and assured that the facility would be properly utilized. He also commended Governor Alex Otti for providing the support and enabling environment necessary for its execution.

Project consultant Basil Okoli and resident supervisor Donatus Kamalu emphasized the need for immediate occupation of the facility to prevent trespass and vandalism, expressing satisfaction with its timely completion. Ezekiel Francis, speaking for the contracting firm, thanked both federal and state governments for facilitating the project.

Police Reaffirm Ban on Unauthorized VIP Escorts as Nationwide Compliance Improves

0

The Nigeria Police Force has again cautioned its officers to stop engaging in illegal VIP escort duties following a nationwide monitoring exercise ordered by President Bola Tinubu.

A special team led by the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun visited several strategic locations including the Lekki Ikoyi Link Bridge and the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport to ensure compliance with the directive withdrawing police escorts from Very Important Personalities.

According to Force PRO Benjamin Hundeyin officers across the country showed commendable compliance with no cases of unauthorized escorts or arrests recorded during the operation.

Egbetokun reaffirmed the force’s commitment to redeploying personnel to essential policing duties aimed at improving public safety and crime prevention nationwide.

This renewed warning follows a wireless signal from the Assistant Inspector General in charge of protection reminding officers that escorting VIPs without approval whether in uniform or mufti is illegal and violates standing orders. The signal noted that some officers were still disobeying the directive and warned that anyone caught would face disciplinary action.

President Tinubu had ordered the withdrawal of police escorts from VIPs on November 23 directing that officers be reassigned to critical security roles. VIPs who need armed protection must now seek assistance from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
