YouTube is helping Nollywood tell stories with low budgets – Daniel Etim Effiong

Nollywood actor and producer, Daniel Etim Effiong, has shared his opinion on some of his colleagues embracing YouTube as a platform to distribute their movies as opposed to cinema and traditional streaming platforms.

Speaking in a recent interview with Hip TV, Effiong said Nollywood needs YouTube as much as it needs cinema and traditional streaming platforms.

He explained that shooting for cinema is expensive but YouTube gives filmmakers the privilege of telling stories with even low budgets.

“Nollywood is an industry with a lot of different platforms. There is cinema, streamer, YouTube, small screen, big screen, medium screen, and different kinds of talents, different kinds of producers, different kinds of projects with different budgets.

“Sometimes, a producer may not have the budget to shoot a cinema movie, I’m talking about N100 million and above. Maybe as a producer your budget is N20 million, N10 million, it won’t stop your from making a film or telling your story. You cut your cloth according to your clothes; you go to streamer or YouTube. So, these platforms are welcomed.

“I have been a beneficiary of YouTube, streamer, and cinema. I make money everywhere. I’m one of those talents who has been blessed to make money from all the different platforms. I’m grateful for that,” he expressed.
